The city of Gulf Shores continues to revitalize Gulf Place, a popular area for both tourists and locals.
Construction for phase two of a three-phase redevelopment project is near completion.
An area that used to be a simple parking lot will soon be a pedestrian-friendly attraction.
The $15 million project includes amenities like a boardwalk, green spaces, additional sidewalks and shaded areas.
Public Information Officer for the city of Gulf Shores, Grant Brown, says “We haven’t seen a change to this beach front since the sixties. We’ve had some hurricanes that have come through and blown things away and we had to rebuild. This is truly a revitalized area that we hope will spur more tourism.”
City officials expect Gulf Place construction to be complete by April, just in time for major annual events.
Phase three of the project will focus on the eastern end of city property.
