Bond set at $1 million for Alabama man accused of killing wife at Pascagoula apartments

PASCAGOULA, Miss. — JoQuincy Maurice McCord, 27, stood before Judge Michael Fondren in Pascagoula City Court on Wednesday where bond was set at $1 million on the alleged murder of his estranged wife and and $500,000 on child abuse/felony charges.

JoQuincy is accused of killing his wife, 33-year-old Brittany Moore McCord and fleeing with his daughter, 2-year-old Genesis McCord, according to Capt. Doug Walker with the Pascagoula Police Department.

Genesis, according to Adams is in the custody of family members according to Adams and is in good health physically. Contact with the family has not been made as of today.

JoQuincy also has a domestic violence prior filed against him in 2017 by his estranged wife.

The incident happened just after 5 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Bandywood Apartments in Pascagoula. According to Adams, officers were dispatched to the scene at 5:15 p.m., where they found Brittany suffering from a gunshot wound.

Their 13-year-old son tried to protect his mother, according to Adams, but Brittany succumbed to her injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.

JoQuincy turned himself in to the Mobile Police Department on Tuesday night just after 8 p.m. after giving Genesis to one of her uncles. The uncle subsequently called MPD and so did McCord to tell police he wanted to turn himself in.

He was apprehended without incident, signed a waiver to be extradited back to Jackson County and arrived at the Adult Detention Center just after 9 p.m., according to Adams.

Trial date has not been set at this time.
